Find out what’s bringing Shaq to Baton Rouge this fall
Shaquille O’Neal is returning to his alma mater this fall as his alter egos “Credit Professor” and “DJ Diesel” for an event aimed at luring local college students with financial education.
O’Neal will host Credit One Bank’s Credit Tip Off Tour, with stops in college towns including Baton Rouge. The tour’s events include education panels to teach students how to build credit that are followed by DJ Diesel sets. The Baton Rouge stop will be at Fred’s in Tigerland on Nov. 6. It’s free and open to the first 500 college students who enroll at creditonetipofftour.com
The goal of the tour is to educate college students about credit so they can avoid making mistakes while in school that may follow them later in life. The educational sessions include games, skits and other fun activities that keep the audience engaged in the topic. O’Neal, one of the bank’s ambassadors, was brought on board for the tour to bring his personal experiences and lessons to students.
“I’m always learning; I never stop,” O’Neal said in a press release about the tour. “I learned credit the hard way. Nobody broke it down for me back then. Now I’ve got kids in college, kids right out of it, and I want them starting smarter than I did. That’s what the Credit One Bank Credit Tip Off Tour is about. And yeah, we’re still going to have fun.”
The credit talk will conclude with a DJ set from O’Neal’s on-stage persona, DJ Diesel. O’Neal is no stranger to Fred’s, having performed as DJ Diesel multiple times at the venue, especially during football seasons. This event will take place the Friday before LSU’s big matchup against Alabama in Death Valley, so maybe the famous alum will stick around for the matchup.
