Support Baton Rouge’s independent film community this weekend

Grab the popcorn and support local talent in the independent film scene at the Baton Rouge Underground Film Festival at Manship Theatre from Thursday, Aug. 27, to Sunday, Aug. 30. 

The fest features screenings, workshops, panels, networking and afterparties. Read all about it in our event preview.

Watch an aerial circus show this weekend

Refuge Aerial presents “Eclipsed: A World Class Circus Experience” at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Aug. 29.

The show is a circus, aerial and variety show featuring local talent and featured performers.

Tickets begin at $26. Refuge Aerial is located at 6031 Fieldstone Dr. 

Shop vintage finds Saturday

Indulge in nostalgia at Totally Rad Vintage Fest at the Raising Cane’s River Center  from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. 

Shop for clothes, accessories, toys, games and home decor from the ’80s, ’90s, and early 2000s. 

Tickets are $8 online or $12 at the door. Early entry tickets are $25. The Raising Cane’s River Center is located at 275 S. River Rd.

Eat an authentic Sri Lankan meal Saturday

The second annual Sri Lankan Food Festival, presented by the Blue Lotus Meditation Center, will be held this Saturday, Aug. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m.

This event features a buffet-style dinner of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, located at 8470 Goodwood Blvd.

Hear from artists at the Shell Gallery Saturday

The photography and mixed media art exhibition “Breath of God: A Love Letter to Black Men and Black Women” is on display now at the Shell Gallery at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center. 

From 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, attend a free artist talk and learn about works that, according to the artists, visually celebrate Black identity.

The exhibition will be on display at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center, which is located at 233 St. Ferdinand St., until Sept. 25. 

Jam out with Baton Rouge Music Studios Saturday

Baton Rouge Music Studios is celebrating 20 years this Saturday, Aug. 29, at the studio’s Mid City location at 3809 Government St. 

Expect performances from BRMS students and Young Band Nation, and an open jam session at the studio’s outdoor Underdog Stage. 

Doors open at 4 p.m. Guests are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs and snacks.
