Things to do this weekend in Baton Rouge: A musical cabaret, a plant swap and more events

Support young actors and musicians Friday

Mid City Civic Theatre invites the community to Entr’Acte, a one-night-only youth musical cabaret on Friday, Aug. 7.

This fundraising event will feature an evening of Broadway favorites performed by talented young artists from across the Capital Region.

Tickets can be purchased online now. The show will last from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Mid City Civic Theatre, located at 7155 Florida Blvd.

Swap plants Saturday

The Baton Rouge Garden Society’s annual plant swap event will take place at Independence Botanical Garden on Saturday, Aug. 8.

Bring and swap seeds, rhizomes, bulbs and rooted plants from 8 a.m. to noon.

This event is free to attend. BREC’s Independence Botanical Garden is located at 7950 Independence Blvd.

Learn how to support students Saturday

Beyond the Backpack is a free community event to provide educators, parents and counselors with resources to help students with anxiety, ADHD and learning disabilities.

Hosted by the Greater Baton Rouge Area Association of Black Social Workers, the event features an expert panel, local resources and the opportunity to make connections.

This event will be held at the EBRPL Main Library, located at 7711 Goodwood Blvd., from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8.

Check out the annual gem and mineral show this weekend

The Baton Rouge Gem and Mineral Society’s annual show is held at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9. 

This family-friendly event features vendors selling gems, minerals, fossils and jewelry.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 to 12. The Lamar Dixon Expo Center is located at 9039 S. St. Landry Ave., Gonzales.
