Dine Roundup: Gatsby-themed New Year’s Eve, Brunch for a Benefit and other food-related events this week
Indulge in a five-course meal at Cocha’s Friday
Just because Christmas has passed doesn’t mean the feasts have to come to an end just yet. Venezuelan and Southern restaurant Cocha is celebrating two years in the Capital City on Friday, Dec. 28.
From 6 p.m.-midnight, join the party with a food and wine pairing dinner to remember. The five-course meal will be served at the restaurant downtown, 445 North Sixth St. Call 615-8826 to make reservations for either 6 or 8:30 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds from the brunch at the restaurant, 3535 Perkins Road, will benefit Youth Oasis Children’s Shelter, which provides emergency shelter and transitional housing and services to runaway, abandoned and homeless youth in Baton Rouge. The shelter is Louisiana’s first LGBT-affirming youth shelter.
Spend your New Year’s Eve up on the rooftops Monday
Who said Santa was the only one allowed to hang out on rooftops this holiday season? Tsunami Sushi is hosting its New Year’s Eve Rooftop Party Monday, Dec. 31, 7 p.m.-1 a.m. and pulling out all the stops to ring in 2019.
We’re talking a photo booth, a DJ, a Champagne toast at midnight and plenty of buffet-style food to go around—hors d’oeuvres, sushi stations and meat carving—all at the Shaw Center’s rooftop, 100 Lafayette St. General admission tickets are $120 per person and same day tickets are $150. Purchase tickets here.
Take it back to the ‘20s Monday night
Nothing welcomes 2019 like a throwback to the ’20s, and that’s precisely what you’ll get with the Great Gatsby New Year’s Eve Dinner Party at Girasole Exquisite Italian Monday, Dec. 31
From 8 p.m.-1 a.m., you’ll don your flapper dresses and dance to the sounds of the big band trio 3 Quarter Moon playing at the restaurant, 14350 Wax Road #112. Eats will include your choice of a prime rib with smoky shallot mashed potatoes and brocollini or lemon saffron lobster risotto as well as pistachio creme cake with dark chocolate mousse for dessert—plus a midnight Champagne toast, of course.
Tickets are $25 for the party and $65 plus fees for the dinner and the party and may be purchased here.
Celebrate National Hangover Day Tuesday
You’ve heard of pre-gaming, but the day after New Year’s Eve, you may want to make post-gaming a thing. The Rum House is inviting you to do just that for National Hangover Day on Tuesday, Jan. 1, as you watch LSU take on the University of Central Florida.
From 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m., enjoy a special edition of bottomless brunch at the restaurant, 2112 Perkins Road, with options like chicken and waffles with buffalo maple syrup, soft cheddar scrambled eggs and apple smoked bacon and tasso shrimp and grits. Plus, the restaurant will offer its Taco Tuesday specials—$3 tacos, $3 beers and $5 house margaritas—all day long.
