Dine Roundup: New autumnal brews, acoustic brunch and other food-related events
Get acquainted with a new autumnal brew at Southern Craft Brewing Friday
Southern Craft Brewing Co. is hosting a Fall Fest on Friday, Nov. 9, 5-9 p.m., in honor of the release of its American Barleywine beer. The flavor has been in the works since February and contains toffee, fig, dried fruits and candied orange peel.
Taco pop-up Secret Lair Taqueria will also be joining in on the fun at the brewery, 14141 Airline Highway, and you’ll be able to sip the new brew while listening to live music. Does it get more fall than that?
Brunch over a little acoustic guitar Sunday
White Star Market is serving major Sunday morning vibes with its new Acoustic Brunch series. Local pop singer-songwriter Peyton McMahon will perform Sunday, Nov. 11, while you peruse the brunch menu items and then inevitably stuff your face.

Head on over to the food hall at 4624 Government St. between 11 a.m.-2 p.m. if a late morning of acoustic guitar and a hot bowl of shrimp and grits is your kind of thing.
Get some early-bird holiday shopping done Sunday
Shop local art ‘til you drop Sunday, Nov. 11, with Mistletoe & Mimosas. Local artists and designers will gather at The Foyer to sell their work at the gallery from noon-4 p.m.
The annual Christmas event will take place at The Foyer, 3655 Perkins Road. And obviously, you’ll be able to sip mimosas while you peruse. Who said holiday shopping has to be stressful?
Raising Cane’s opens its 400th restaurant
Most of us know Raising Cane’s began in Baton Rouge right off LSU’s campus and has exploded in popularity since. But you may not know that the fried-chicken giant just opened its 400th restaurant, this one in Beavercreek, Ohio.
Cane’s next stop? The company will open its first restaurant in Hawaii in December, making the islands the 25th state with a location of its own. Boy, do we feel bad for the other 25.
Waitr gives back for Thanksgiving
The Lake Charles-born food delivery app has taken off, but now it wants to give back by partnering with charities to help local underprivileged families with its Share Thanksgiving. Until Nov. 15, Waitr will match a portion of the donations given and use the money to deliver Thanksgiving meals to families who need them.
Last year, Waitr brought meals to more than 1,000 people in need. This year, they want to double that. Those who would like to donate may do so here.
