From ‘Daily Report’: Long-awaited Mid City Beer Garden to break ground in a month

After nearly three years of planning and much anticipation, the owners of the proposed Mid City Beer Garden hope to break ground in one month.

Since the plans were first announced in 2015, the revitalized Mid City area has seen an explosion of redevelopment and new establishments popping up along Government Street. And with all that’s been going on, people of Baton Rouge have been wondering when the beer garden would make its debut.

“That’s a question I get every day,” says Kelli Paxton, co-owner of the beer garden and manager of the nearby Radio Bar. “It’s been a long time coming, especially trying to build it from the ground up, which we’ve never done before. We spent a long time working on the design and flow to make sure it reflects what we want it to be.”

The permitting process is now wrapping up, Paxton says, and the owners are “standing at the gate ready to go.” She expects construction to take about 10 to 12 months.
