Lauren Waguespack – 2014 People to Watch

Occupation: Singer, seen on TV show The X-Factor; Photographer
Hometown: Gonzales
Age: 25

The most memorable moment from the third season of The X-Factor had nothing to do with singing. David Gray, a Baton Rougean and self-described “non-singer,” surprised his then-girlfriend Lauren Waguespack, proposing to her on stage in front of the celebrity judges.

The proposal garnered a million hits on YouTube. All of the sudden, the couple had fans. Some were inspired; others had drunk a bit too much hater-ade.

“One girl messaged me to tell me that her fiancé passed away last September and that seeing our proposal and our love made her want to fall in love and try again,” Waguespack says. “We’ve also gotten some creepy messages—someone wants our child.”

Now, the couple is in the post-15 seconds of fame stage, but Waguespack, a portrait photographer, is pursuing a music career and recording in her father’s studio. What’s her new sound like?

“You can put it on and blare it out and sing to it,” she says. “I like music that is relatable, too, and I like to put some beats to it so you can dance.”

New music. Possibly another X-Factor audition. A wedding June 7.
