In between all the hub-bub and gearing up for a viewing party, Miller had some time to talk about her experience on the show last season.
In 2012, Baton Rouge native Miller didn’t make any more excuses for herself and tried out for the competitive reality show American Idol.
Sure enough, the chips fell into place for Miller. She went to New Orleans for the cattle call auditions where thousands of others were singing. She got through the first round and three more rounds.
Then came the audition in front of celebrity judges Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson.
Two days before this audition, Miller was injured in a motorcycle accident.
“I was on crutches and my leg got infected,” she says. “I was supposed to have to get surgery on my leg the Thursday night before my Friday audition. I declined the surgery until after my audition. After my audition, I went straight to the hospital.”
The experience was one of the best and worst days of her life she says.
“I couldn’t eat or drink all day,” she says. “I had to put my game face on. I thought there was no way I was going to get through. I had crutches, and the cameras flew to me. I basically walking in to my audition with six-inch heels and a leg brace.”
Miller didn’t want to be a sob story, though, and she flipped her crutch upside down and used it as a microphone during the audition.
Minaj called Miller an undeniable superstar. Carey said Miller had an endearing quality.
Though Miller got through to Hollywood week before getting eliminated, the young singer is hoping to stay on the show for the long haul this time around.
“I think I had unrealistic expectations to win on my first try,” she says. “I got intimidated and nervous. I was surrounded by amazing singers, and I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I didn’t perform to the best of my abilities because of my nerves. This year, I hope to show everyone who Megan Miller is, as an hard-working artist.”
