On Trend: Time to sparkle

I know it’s barely Christmas, but let’s go ahead and talk about how to sparkle on New Year’s Eve. Even if you hate to wear actual glitter, New Year’s Eve represents opportunity and fresh starts, so it’s fun to try something new and celebrate with clothes that pop like fireworks (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun).

Your outfit should make a statement. It’s the one night where it’s acceptable for sequins, shimmery fabric and bedazzled accessories from head to toe, and my advice is to embrace it. Fringe is making a huge comeback as well, so if you are a Great Gatsby fan, this is your night. When you dress well, you feel great. Who knows, maybe even a New Year’s kiss will be on the horizon!

Try at least one of these tips to help make your New Year’s look sparkle.

Make up: I know everyone has that one square of shimmer eye shadow that has barely been used. Pair it with a colorful lip and you are good to go! InStyle has some good tips for just this.

Shoes: Try these gold loafers from J. Crew, or pumps from Steve Madden. However, if you choose an eye-catching shoe as your statement, pair it with a more subdued outfit (your favorite jeans and a great leather top) and fabulous jewelry.

Dresses: Trust me, sequins will never go out of style. Go ahead and splurge on that dress you’ve been eying but have talked yourself out of buying. Here are some of my favorites: Nasty Gal (with a very On Trend color!), Forever 21, Urban Outfitters,  Asos and Vertage.

PS – If you can pull it off, I love this look.
