Summer Sippin’: Where to find boozy snowballs in Baton Rouge

No Baton Rouge summer is complete without snowballs. Between the heat and the humidity, nothing is more refreshing than the sweet syrup-over-shaved ice concoction we all love.

While snowballs are adored by people of all ages, there are a few “adult” options to consider. At Beausoleil Restaurant and Bar, there is one special kind of boozy snowball that has been a hit with customers in the summer months.

I sampled the bar’s signature blueberry mojito snowball Tuesday afternoon, and it was a delicious way to end a workday. With strong mint and lime flavors, the Beausoleil creation is made like a traditional mojito with a fresh blueberry infusion—and of course customizable amounts of rum depending on each customer’s ability to handle hard liquor.

The snowball is created with Louisiana brand Kicking Mule rum, mint syrup, lime syrup, fresh blueberry puree and sugar. The fresh blueberries pair wonderfully with the Kicking Mule rum, and the result is an ultra satisfying, invigorating after-work treat.

Now, Beausoleil’s bar can create just about any kind of snowball. Tell the bartender your favorite cocktail, and it can be converted into a snowball creation. Most recently, the bar has been testing out a pina colada snowball with homemade coconut mixtures, lime juice, fresh pineapple juice and rum.

Another boozy snowball option in town:

Olive or Twist has perfected the art of the alcoholic snowball. After premiering them in 2014, the restaurant has served up more than 10 flavors of the treat each summer. This year, the snowball menu includes the fan favorite flavors ice cream sundae, king cake, mint julep and wedding cake, as well as new flavors bananas foster, blueberry cheesecake, cookie dough, French vanilla cappuccino, horchata, margarita, rum punch and strawberry mojito. All flavors will be available through Labor Day, which falls on Monday, Sept. 5, this year.
