Description: Get ready to rock at BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, 10503 N. Oaks Hills Pkwy., as we celebrate the world of rocks, crystals, gemstones and fossils. At Rockin’ at the Swamp, experienced hobbyist and beginners alike enjoy specimen displays and demonstrations or head out on the Swamp’s Treasure Trail to make their own gemstone identification card. Kids 12 and under collect pyrite specimens during Kids Gold Rush activity beginning at noon. Diamond Del’s Mobile Mining will be on site for those wanting to expand or start their gemstone collections. Other thematic elements include a fossil quarry, “Paint a Rock Python” station by JimStone, Co. and a rock climbing wall provided by Baton Rouge Parrot Head Club. Eagle 98.1 will provide music for the event. Event is held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, 18 and older, $4 for children, ages 2-17, and free for children under 2.
