Description: Baton Rouge, LA- The muse of dance, Terpsichore, is honored as our third installment of the Museum's Find Your Muse series, Sunday, July 13, 2 p.m. LSM-BR is delighted to have Susan Perlis, Associate Artistic Director of the Junior Company of the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre presenting a short talk on the history of dance in Louisiana. Her lecture is followed by a special performance by the Junior Ballet.
Perlis teaches ballet for the Dancers' Workshop and the Louisiana State University Department of Dance. She has performed with the Louisville Ballet and Royal Winnipeg Ballet. In addition, her training includes time at the Joffrey American Ballet Center and the Indiana University, where she earned a bachelors in ballet. From Regional Dance America Southwest she received the Choreography Recognition Award in 1997 and Choreography Scholarship in 2001. In 2004 she received one of three RDA Project Tier Commissions at the Choreography Conference directed by Alan Hineline. As director of the BRBT Junior Company she has created ballets including Les Sylphides, High Jinks In Paris, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Cinderella, Firebird and Coppelia.
The Louisiana State Museum- Baton Rouge welcomes the public to join this celebration of dance in Louisiana. This event is free and the audience is granted complementary entry to the Museum's galleries.
In August, Find Your Muse continues with Calliope, the muse of poetry featuring Anna West and Elizabeth Weinstein.
