As an educator, we here in Baton Rouge will continue to have failing schools until our community and this state begin to show that a good education is valuable. We all need to take responsibility for its success and stop pointing fingers. We need to view a good education as a necessity for all, not just for our own children. As long as we devalue education by underfunding it and treating teachers as second class citizens via respect level and salary level, we will not succeed. Unfortunately, these continued failures only degrade our state's future and marginalize our children's viability in the workplace. Whether public or private, school governing bodies do not appropriately fund schools or compensate staff members. Success can be achieved, but it will take all of us, not just the teachers and school administrators. I hate to say it, but IT'S THE FUNDING, STUPID! It would make all the difference in the world and our children deserve it, all of our children.
