I'm a BR native and even though I haven't lived there for 15 years, I visit often - 3-4 times/yr. With all the recent change in infrastructure and the revitalization of downtown, I'm excited each time I'm there and see a new restaurant, boutique, bar, etc. Still, I'm saddened that the attitudes and mindsets in BR have not changed much at all. Re: the 3 comments earlier, I think its interesting that "David" took offense to the earlier comments by "Areaux1" and "clm616". I didn't read "whining" or "complaining" in either comment. On my most recent visit - 4th of July, I called several friends from BR both still in the city and transplants to other cities to find out about the newer, nicer spots for drinks, dinner, etc. with diverse crowds. Again, I was disappointed at the responses I got. Most felt that African Americans (professionals with $$ to spend - no less) are mistreated and/or are not welcomed so they tend not to patronize the newer places. I wonder when will this change? Its not just about fairness - there is nothing "fair" about customer service! I'm a business owner and my husband is an ER physician, we live in Atlanta and have become accustomed to very nice establishments with diverse customers - all with the same goal - to enjoy an evening out among friends and to meet new and interesting people...regardless of skin color. Even though most of my friends from high school and college in BR have moved away, I enjoy coming HOME and SEEING all the positive changes. I'll be even happier to EXPERIENCE the changes in attitudes. Come on BR - its 2007! By the way "David" its "poll" not "pole".
