Sounding at once woozy and hopped up on something sinister, the French Kicks have perfected a kind of percussive, unsettling modern pop—the kind that Walkmen-loving Brooklynites love, anyway. The French Kicks perform June 7 at Spanish Moon. • Johnathan Rice has famous friends. Jeff Tweedy and Jenny Lewis are among them, so what’s he so upset about? Rice mixes a moody Crazy Horse vibe with Country Joe’s “Fixin’ to Die Rag” wink on new album Further North, and brings his hot little rock band to Spanish Moon on June 11 with support from soft strummer Maria Taylor. • Singer-songwriter B.J. Thomas, whose hits from the 1960s and ’70s include “Just Can’t Help Believing,” “Hooked on a Feeling” and “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” performs June 28 at the River Center.
