What are you on?

Brady Hendricks hitting the road for charity.

Brady Hendrix stars in the coolest local

YouTube vid we’ve seen in a while, and certainly the most inspiring.

When he’s not whipping up salads at Fresh Salads+Wraps at Main Street Market, he’s training to run 100 miles of the Natchez Trace in a 24-hour span in late April. His goal: to raise $10,000 for Relay for Life to benefit cancer research. His run is set for April 25-26.

His online teaser trailer (the first of two) has the raw, early-morning feel of a slick shoe commercial for serious runners. Some sweet camerawork and digital editing by his brother, Paul Hendrix, and tasty rocking by AC/DC lend grit and intensity. But Brady’s voiceover is what’s most memorable.

“Everyone wants to know what I’m on,” he deadpans. “What am I on? I’m on the road five hours a day, busting my a--. What are you on?”

Hendrix found his inspiration to do something about cancer in 2005 while he was staying in

St. Louis with his aunt, Kathleen Black, who is fighting colon cancer.

Hendrix grew up in Natchez, Miss., then moved here to attend LSU.

But Hendrix won’t be around town for long— he recently completed officer candidacy school for the U.S. Marine Corps, and he ships out next month to Quantico, Va., for basic training and then infantry school.

Pipedreams

Everyone knows Louisiana’s receding coastline is webbed with oil and gas pipelines, like so many straws sucking at the state. But this map denoting Hurricane Katrina’s path and the pipelines marked by the federal Minerals Management Service makes the state look like Shrek’s armpit. According to the site, more than 28,000 miles of pipeline stretch out from Louisiana’s coast. skytruth.org —JEFF ROEDEL

iTunes - Unlit Hallway. This track from Sun Kil Moon’s new album April marries two of indie folk’s most passionate and ideological voices: Will Oldham and, of course, Mark Kozelek, the Almost Famous actor and sole proprietor of the Sun Kil Moon moniker when not romping with Red House Painters. The song, in Kozelek’s hushed San Franciscan way, is perfect for Oldham’s charm. Let’s hope April isn’t that last time they meet.

YouTube - Shaquille O’Neal and Bill Walton attack each other. Is there any doubt that Bill Walton is the most obnoxious commentator in sports? The guy talks in nothing but absolutes. His doesn’t speak English. He speaks hyperbole. It’s a good thing, then, Shaq is around to remind him of a little thing called the Big Man Code.

National everything month

Not one holiday or awareness campaign goes unnoticed at countmeincalendar.info. This month alone there’s National Kite Month, National Humor Month, World Lab Animal Week, Sports Eye Safety Month, Earth Day and IBS Awareness Month—the IBS standing for irritable bowel syndrome. It’s just too bad it doesn’t fall on Nov. 18, when the planet celebrates World Toilet Day. —REBECCA BREEDEN
