Do these temporary barriers at Florida and Sherwood boulevards look familiar? Perhaps that’s because they’ve been there for two years.
The service roads that run parallel to Florida Boulevard can be tempting shortcuts for motorists trying to slip past drive-time traffic on the busy east-west thoroughfare, but the practice is dangerous, especially at major intersections such as Sherwood Forest Boulevard.
So the Department of Public Works installed makeshift orange and white barricades to keep drivers from abusing the service roads at the busy interchange.
The barricades were proposed and installed as a temporary fix, but they’ve become an eyesore for two years.
“We are in the process of receiving funds for this project and should have the temporary structures replaced in a few months,” DPW Director Peter Newkirk says. The department promises a more appealing structure.
They may be unsightly, but the barricades have at least been effective, Newkirk insists. “There has been a drastic reduction in accidents at this intersection.”
