Do you suffer from fear of flying and Heroes withdrawal? Take Jumper! Screenwriters David Goyer of Batman Begins and Jim Uhls of Fight Club teamed up with The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman to adapt this film, a thriller about a troubled anti-hero who discovers he can teleport on command.
Based on the Steven Gould novel of the same name, Jumper stars Hayden Christensen as a guy who puts his abilities to surreptitious use by robbing banks and living the high life in Manhattan. Of course, he soon learns there are other “jumpers”—namely Jamie Bell—and that a war is on. Gould’s novel is a step ahead of the typical sci-fi actioner. It delves into child abuse and the psyche of a superhero who doesn’t yet understand his power. The film also stars Rachel Bilson, Samuel L. Jackson and Diane Lane.
Plus there’s a Baton Rouge connection: Richie Adams, one of 225’s 2008 People to Watch, designed the titles and credits sequence for the film. Jumper opens Feb. 14. jumperthemovie.com
ALSO IN FEBRUARY: The Eye (Feb. 1), The Spiderwick Chronicles (Feb. 15), Charlie Bartlett (Feb. 22), Vantage Point (Feb. 22), Semi-Pro (Feb. 29), The Other Boleyn Girl (Feb. 29)
