Grilled Gator, extra pepper

Word is that after the Tigers beat the Florida Gators, a bunch of disheartened Florida fans who had rented the second floor of The Varsity got a little out of hand. Witnesses tell 225 flared tempers led to some of the vanquished tangling with Tiger fans, and when the ruckus spilled out into the street, police reportedly used pepper spray to break it up, although police have no record of pepper spray being used. Varsity owner Tim Hood says the nightclub ran out of beer and decided to close down at midnight. Guess the Gators were thirsty to drown their sorrows.

Sarandon digs Galatoire’s

The cast and crew of coming-of-age drama Middle of Nowhere took in Sunday Brunch at Galatoire’s Bistro on a break from production recently. Wait staff and fellow diners say star Susan Sarandon was “super sweet” and really appreciated the Creole cuisine. For the record, the Oscar-nominated actress ordered the crabmeat sardou.

Change the stations

According to a source at DPW, Baton Rouge may be close to inking a deal that would eventually bring not one, but two alternative fuel stations to the city in 2008, one on Florida Boulevard and the other on Choctaw Drive.

The new retail fueling locations would likely be E85 stations offering ethanol, compressed natural gas and biodiesel fuels. Louisiana’s first E85 station opened in Sulphur in August.

Material Girl makes People cameo

Baton Rouge boutique Material Girl (5201 Nicholson Dr.) made People magazine’s October “Style Watch.” The national mag featured a silver silk and chiffon dress by designer Alexia Admor to illustrate the kind of oh-so-hot jeweled necklines Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz popularized. Material Girl owner Kate Burns got a call from the dressmaker asking for permission to list her Baton Rouge shop as the place to buy the $300 dresses. “It’s been such great press,” Burns says. “We’ve already received calls from all over the country and just last week a woman from Canada called.”
