Rapper’s home raided
While Earl Simmons, aka DMX, was in Baton Rouge filming Lockjaw: The Hunt for the Kulev Serpent, deputies were raiding his Phoenix home. Deputies removed a dozen pit bulls in need of extensive medical care, but said dog fighting was not involved. Deputies also found illegal weapons and narcotics. “As a company and as people, we do not and will not condone cruelty to animals, especially in the wake of the Michael Vick situation,” K2 Productions’ George Kostuch says. “We remain very sensitive to Mr. Simmons’ feelings and saw nothing but intense professionalism on the set of the film we recently shot.”
Hair today, gone tomorrow
Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham caused barely a stir when her soccer star hubby David arrived, but American women do like at least one thing about her: her hairdo. “People have been coming in with pictures of Beckham and asking for this specific cut,” Avallon Salon and Day Spa stylist Ashley Quartararo says.
Foti’s follies
Attorney General Charles Foti enters the Oct. 20 primary a bruised incumbent. A New Orleans grand jury refused to indict a nationally-recognized cancer doctor Foti wanted to prosecute for murder. And a jury acquitted a pair of nursing home owners in the deaths of 34 of their residents after Foti made them poster kids for post-Katrina abuse and neglect. “What people are looking for in an attorney general is sound judgment,” says Royal Alexander, one of Foti’s two challengers.
Still a regular guy
He may have won 12 PGA tournaments and nearly $28 million since his LSU golf team days, but
David Toms still enjoys doing regular-guy stuff. Like the day of LSU’s Middle Tennessee State game, when the Monroe-native was spotted in town eating breakfast with his son, Carter. Where did the multimillionaire dine? IHOP on College Drive. Sweet!
High Red Stick style
A pair of local high-end men’s clothing stores earned style props this summer. Cohn Turner made Esquire’s Best of Class, a salute to top men’s specialty stores, joining the likes of Rubenstein Brothers and Perlis of New Orleans and F. Camalo of Lafayette. Meanwhile, Martinez Custom Clothiers on Corporate Boulevard earned a two-page spread in the September issue of The Robb Report that featured renowned tailors from New York, Los Angeles and other major cities.
