Dearman’s returns
Dearman’s, the Baton Rouge landmark, is back. New co-owner David Vangelder and crew started serving made-to-order burgers, shakes and fries in September in the same location as its predecessors. What began as a drugstore in the 1950s turned into a full-time restaurant in 2000, and it then operated as Billy B’s from 2005 until it closed late last year. Vangelder and business partner Jude Bernhard assumed the lease, resurrected the familiar Dearman’s name and refurbished the restaurant with new furniture, a new floor and a children’s menu.
Three’s a charm
Jaimee Little’s boutique, Three, which opened in August on Highland Road near the north gates of LSU, is all about individual style. Its name alludes to Little and her two sisters and the distinct sense of style each lends to the business. Within Three you’ll find cute and affordable jewelry, shoes and apparel arrayed in funky and refreshingly personal décor that includes warm photos of the three women whose style inspired the shop.
Day and night-lab
Day-lab.com partner Ryan Baudoin is gaining fans with a male version of the popular day-lab.com he launched with friend and business partner Amy Shutt. Night-lab.com is its “boyfriend” counterpart, a hip new online men’s store. Night-lab offers original items by various artists, from modern apparel and housewares to vintage comic books and graphic novels.
Night-lab caught the attention of national blogs such as designsponge and NotCot, who praised its diverse style.
Previously, Baudoin and Shutt developed the online art magazine Cozytone. The pair also continues to work on their jewelry line, Little Ghost Designs.
