On a high note

Who says Baton Rouge lacks culture? The formation of Baton Rouge’s first professional opera company could prove the naysayers wrong.

Opera Louisiane launched in November with a gala premiere featuring seven leading singers from the Metropolitan Opera and the New York City Opera, including Louisiana natives Elizabeth Futral, Paul Groves, Jeffrey Wells, Lisette Oropesa and Matt Groves.

Under the direction of Robert Grayson, the Kirkpatrick professor and chair of opera at the LSU School of Music, Opera Louisiane has a strong schedule of performances that kick off in 2008. operalouisiane.com
