Why did you leave Baton Rouge?

I left in August 2004 to attend law school.

What do you miss about the city?

HERE: Policy Director, Lieutenant Governor’s Office.

THERE: Student at University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia.

Everything! I miss the way Baton Rouge is the perfect combination of small town and big city. I miss fresh crawfish, and most of all, I miss my friends and colleagues. It’s been heartbreaking to be so far away since the hurricane especially. My thoughts and prayers are with south Louisiana every day.

What don’t you miss about it?

Having to drive everywhere.

What does Philadelphia have that you wish Baton Rouge had?

The combination of a revitalized downtown and a good public transportation system make Philly a place where you don’t need a car.

What’s essential when you come back to visit?

A walk through Spanish Town, chicken from Raising Cane’s and a Purple Haze or two.

When were you in town last?

Just before Katrina. I went to the Shaw Center and had drinks on the roof, which was beautiful. I ate great barbecue with friends in Beauregard Town and had lunch in the Main Street Market. I was homesick for Baton Rouge after that.

Mike Wang tackling the tough questions. I've actually put that picture up on my wall right next to my picture of Jesus.
