If you’ve driven by Bluebonnet and Perkins roads recently, then chances are you’ve seen the construction for Perkins Rowe. Ultra chic and overly happy people beckon to you from billboards. “Live urban,” they are silently saying. But what exactly does that mean? A quick Google search and you’ll find more than 1 million results for this up-and-coming real estate development.
Top billing went to Perkins Rowe’s own Web site, of course. A 2004 article from Retail Traffic magazine also popped up. It says Baton Rouge ranks 24th among the most sprawling cities in the country. The sprawling metro area’s poor street network makes the average daily commute for Baton Rouge drivers around 25 minutes.
JTS Interests, Perkins Rowe’s developer, plans to eliminate all that driving around by creating a freestanding, urban development that will include everything residents need. For a price, of course.
And kudos to LSU’s student newspaper, The Daily Reveille, for making the Top 10 list of Google results with an article detailing the development and its “new twist” on Baton Rouge living.
