What’s in a name?

What’s in a name?

Seafood restaurants are to Louisiana as Starbucks is to Seattle, so how does one differentiate itself from the one across the street?

Restaurateur Phil Tuminello opened his popular seafood joint in 1956 and just stuck his own name on it. A favorite among co-workers, co-eds and celebs—Jessica Simpson jeopardized her Daisy Duke diet here—the eponymous restaurant changed owners some 30 years ago, but the name stayed the same. Phil’s is now located on Concord Avenue just off College Drive. That Phil’s hasn’t become Gus’ Oyster Bar (after current owner Gus Piazza) could only be a testament to its long-standing, good name.
