Arts picks: Don’t miss these great local exhibits

Check out local art this week
Did you miss out on all the great local art shows over the past few weeks? After getting your fill of turkey, you can still check out what’s going on in the Capital City. Among some of the recent highlights is Prospect.3+Baton Rouge’s showing on the fourth floor of the Chase Tower. The exhibit features works from across the country and is the main component of Baton Rouge’s part in the international contemporary art biennial Prospect New Orleans. Click here for more information. The LSU Museum of Art’s latest installation, Dwelling by Silas Breaux, will also be on display through March 26. Click here or call 389-7200 for more information. Also at the museum is Kelli Scott Kelley’s works from Accalia and the Swamp Monster, “Leroy Neiman: Action!” and Nari Ward’s “Rooted Communities.” The Walls Project also just put up its latest work, #iammidcityat Letterman’s as part of White Light Night last weekend. Get more information on #iammidcity here. The Arts Council will also host the weekly open mic night of poetry and slam Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7. Get more information.

Shop small at Studio C
Studio C, a Mid City home furnishings store, hosts works from Liz Martin Saturday as part of Small Business Saturday, Nov. 29. The event coincides with the shop’s annual Christmas open house and starts at 10 a.m. Martin’s jewelry work is inspired by her mother, who was an artist and recently passed away. Martin’s son was also recently diagnosed with colon cancer, and the jewelry is fun, colorful and uses  an array of materials that is also inspired by her son’s love of Legos.
