Description: “Alloy” is a new and collaborative dance concert running in Baton Rouge September 14-16, 2007. The performance will offer work from three strong dance forces in the Southern Region: Louisiana’s Of Moving Colors Productions (OMC), Willow Oak Contemporary Ballet and Florida’s Fuzion Dance Artists. The concert will challenge the audience’s artistic thought with segments of contemporary ballet, modern dance, and contemporary dance-theatre. The word “alloy” is defined as a substance composed of two or more metals intimately mixed, as by fusion or electrodeposition. “Our Dance concert will fuse together an incredible mixture of movement – an alloy of our own – represented by three strong companies in the south,” says Garland Goodwin Wilson, Of Moving Colors’ Artistic Director.
OMC kicks off their 20th Anniversary Season with this collective performance. The local company will highlight new works from four of their choreographers including Artistic Director, Garland Goodwin Wilson. With a wide range of music from Mozart to Led Zeppelin, OMC will compliment and contrast this music with modern and contemporary movement just as varied.
Willow Oak performs choreography ranging in style from classical to contemporary ballet. Dianna Jones of Jean Leigh Academy directs the company. Tamu Wilson, the Artistic Director and visionary for Willow Oak will also present original choreography focusing on impeccable line, believable emotional scope, and the undeniable partnership between movement and music.
Fuzion, who will perform as a guest to Of Moving Colors, is a contemporary dance collective influenced by World Dance forms. This Florida based company will inspire Baton Rouge with movement that expresses the desires and struggles of the human spirit. Directors Leymis Bolaños Wilmott and Rachael Inman bring their images to the Baton Rouge stage.
OMC will also be holding auditions for their company dancers Sunday, September 16th at noon in the Manship Theatre (registration opens at 11:15).
“Alloy” will be held at The Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts (100 Lafayette Street) in Baton Rouge, LA on Friday through Sunday, September 14th & 15th at 7:30pm and the 16th at 2:00pm.
