Description: THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC
August’s Movies & Music takes a sober turn with the touching story of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s “The Passion of Joan of Arc.” Filmed in France, the plot is based on records from the martyr’s 1431 trial during the Hundred Years’ War. Herald widely as one of the greatest moments in silent cinema, “The Passion of Joan of Arc” will be screened outdoors in City Park Saturday, August 25, 8 p.m.
The French actress, Reńee Jeanne Falconetti’s performance of Joan of Arc, has been a critical favorite since its first screening in 1928. In Roger Ebert’s review of the movie in 1997 stated, “You cannot know the history of silent film unless you know the face of Renee Maria Falconetti. In a medium without words, where the filmmakers believed that the camera captured the essence of characters through their faces, to see Falconetti…is to look into eyes that will never leave you.”
Please join Baton Rouge Gallery in presenting this landmark film, rain or shine. The cost is five-dollars for non-members. Bring a blanket and friend!
