Tredici Bakery & Cafe launches Italian-inspired lunch

Alongside its handcrafted cakes, cupcake bar and other pretty, sweet treats, Tredici Bakery & Cafe recently started an Italian-inspired lunch each day, fulfilling the “cafe” portion of its name.

Lunch, served between 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Saturday, consists of one or two flatbread pizzas and one soup option each day.

Owner Monica Shaughnessy says she wanted to serve lunches as unique as the crafty desserts she offers, so she brainstorms daily to think up interesting flatbread ideas and soup pairings.

Recent lunch menus have featured a chicken taco flatbread with white cheddar poblano soup, an artichoke pesto flatbread with artichoke and chicken florentine soup, and a hummus and vegetable flatbread with tomato pesto soup.

“I just wanted to offer a lunch that’s quick and light, but also freshly made … and then you have room to top it off with a dessert after,” Shaughnessy says with a laugh.

Like the desserts, the lunch items are made in-house by Shaughnessy and her staff. She says the lunch menu will remain a daily special for a while but soon hopes to serve in a style similar to Magpie Cafe, offering several options daily but changing weekly to offer fresh, seasonal fare.

For now, the lunch menu can be found on the bakery’s Facebook page, but Shaughnessy plans to expand the Tredici website soon, where she will post menus weekly.

Situated at 5078 Capital Heights Ave., Tredici Bakery & Cafe has also extended its hours: 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and  8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturdays.
