Mix it up and learn about cocktails in 2015

Ever wanted to know the history of cocktails? Like, so much history you even impress your friends and become the coolest person in the room? OK, calm down, because in January, you’ll have your chance.

Joey Goar, the resident bartender (don’t call him a mixologist) at The Cove, will teach a weekly LSU leisure class on the history and culture of the cocktail, starting Jan. 11. Classes take place at The Cove’s cocktail bar, teaching students about the birth of the cocktail in the 1600s and following its evolution to the beginning of Prohibition. Some of the drinks students will learn about include the Sherry Cobbler and Prince of Wales.

Each class runs 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. weekly, through Feb. 22. Registration is $99 and $79 for students or those affiliated with LSU. There is an additional $140 materials fee that must be payable to the instructor at the first class. Must be 21 or older to participate. For more information, click here.

If you miss this set of classes, Goar will be back March 8, guiding students from Prohibition to “the fall of cocktail culture.”
