Dine roundup: Jesse Romero joins Mid City food hall, 3rd Street Grub Crawl returns and more food news

Jesse Romero joins White Star Market

Baton Rouge celebrity cook Jesse Romero, who appeared on FOX’s MasterChef competition, plans to bring Acadiana-style cooking to Government Street’s gourmet food hall White Star Market.

Romero’s restaurant will be called Robear Ln. and will feature a variety of Acadiana-inspired dishes. Robear Ln. will have a rotating menu of meats and Cajun-style sides served daily, with deboned chicken and pork tenderloins stuffed with boudin, sausage, cornbread or seafood stuffing as menu staples.

Reminder: The 3rd Street Grub Crawl returns Thursday

Thrive BR, partnering with Dudley DeBosier Injury Lawyers, will bring the second annual 3rd Street Grub Crawl downtown Thursday, April 21, 6-9 pm.

A $10 donation to Thrive gets guests a wristband offering access to food and drink specials and/or live music at participating venues. Venues include Blend, Capital City Grill, Draft House, Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar, Huey’s, Restaurant IPO, The River Room, Stroubes and the nightclub 1913. More vendors may be announced soon.

The downtown block party promotes the improvement of public education through Thrive BR’s Charter School.

Heads up: Cheese making class at Whole Foods later this month

Baton Rouge’s Whole Foods Market presents a ricotta cheese making class on Tuesday, April 26, beginning at 6 p.m. Participants will learn how to make ricotta cheese and create a spring-inspired bruschetta bar—and, of course, enjoy plenty of cheese samples and wine pairings.

The event is free, but register here.

Tin Roof adds new ‘Love Shack’-inspired brew

Tin Roof Brewing Company is adding another brew to its arsenal of seasonal beers.

Rusted Rye IPA, named after a famously random line from the B-52’s song “Love Shack” (see video below), is a beer with multi-layered flavors. It features a rye that adds a spicy black pepper-like bite nestled in a warm biscuit flavor with a hint of toast, according to the brewery team.

Rusted Rye IPA will be released for distribution the first week in May, but you can get a preview of it at the Salt & Smoke Festival this Saturday.
