Dine Roundup: Hunan celebrates Chinese New Year, Matherne’s downtown getting rave reviews

The Chinese New Year, or the Year of Green Wood Ram, kicks off Thursday, Feb. 19. To celebrate, Hunan Chinese Restaurant (4215 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd.) will host an outdoor event Sunday, Feb. 22, at noon. Author, professor and martial artist Lou Illar and his students from the White Crane Kung Fu Studio will be on hand, demonstrating techniques. ‘Daily Report’: Nationally renowned urban planner gives rave review to new downtown BR grocery
Nationally renowned New Urbanist planner Andres Duany—best known locally for Plan Baton Rouge, his 1998 master plan for downtown—says that the newly opened downtown Matherne’s supermarket is the “great breakthrough.” Duany praised the store’s design, configuration of the parking lot and quality of the store’s upscale merchandise.
