Dine Roundup: Alexander’s wine dinner, Baton Rouge on Tap and more food news


“Better Together” wine dinner at Alexander’s Highland Market, Feb. 11

The latest wine dinner at Alexander’s Highland Market will feature guest chef Matt Reed and the wines of Rombauer, a family-owned vineyard from Napa Valley.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the night’s menu will focus on famous pairings, including: pork chops and apple sauce, chicken and dumplings, crawfish and potatoes, peanut butter and jelly, ham and cheese, steak and lobster and beignets and coffee.

The “Better Together” wine dinner is Thursday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m.. Seating is limited and tickets are $75 per person. Purchase tickets here.


Baton Rouge on Tap set for this weekend downtown

Baton Rouge on Tap will feature beer sampling 5-8 p.m., Feb. 13, at the Baton Rouge River Center Exhibition Hall.

More than 100 beers from 50 nationwide breweries will be available to sample at the new beer festival.

Iron Brewer competition featuring handcrafted home brews at Tin Roof, Feb. 20

Tin Roof Brewing Company will be the setting for the 2016 Iron Brewer event benefitting the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank 1-4 p.m., Feb. 20. The event is hosted by Brasseurs a la Maison and Bacon Rouge.

More than 15 teams of home brewers will be serving their handcrafted brews using Louisiana ingredients. The Tin Roof tap room will also be open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. and its single-batch limited brew Smiling Ivan will be released for the first time this year.

The event is free to the public with a suggested canned food donation for the food bank.


Ben and Jerry’s announce new dairy-free flavors

Ice cream juggernaut Ben and Jerry’s has introduced non-dairy flavors made with almond milk. The new ice creams are labeled as “certified vegan.”

Flavors included are:

Chunky Monkey: banana non-dairy frozen dessert with fudge chunks and walnuts
Chocolate Fudge Brownie: chocolate non-dairy frozen dessert with fudge brownies
Coffee Caramel Fudge: coffee non-dairy frozen dessert with fudge chunks and a caramel swirl
P.B. and Cookies: vanilla non-dairy frozen dessert with chocolate sandwich cookies and crunchy peanut butter swirls
