Around 20 teams will participate in this weekend’s second-ever Red Stick Roux Rally. Tin Roof will host the gumbo cook-off Saturday, Feb. 21, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. Gumbo tasting begins at 1 p.m. Charlie Hugg and The Chase Tyler Band will provide music.

This year’s celebrity judges include Kelley McCann of Galatoire’s Bistro, LSU Women’s Gymnastics head coach D-D Breaux and baseball star Ryan Theriot. Patrons will also vote on their favorite for a people’s choice award.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Youth Oasis, a children’s shelter located on South Acadian Thruway that provides transitional living for youths.

Red Stick Roux Rally organizer Jon Thorning says this year’s event will see a lot of Baton Rouge chicken and sausage entries, and even a few gumbos from Gonzales. He attributes the growth to last year’s success.

“We had a great time last year,” he says. “This year, we’re picking up from where we left off. We’ve added more people to our [Roux Rally] group to broaden our outreach, and it’s [grown] into what we have right now.”
