A longtime employee of Gino’s Restaurant was recently honored for her work in the restaurant industry.

Hattie Slaughter of Gino’s received the 2015 Baton Rouge Epicurean Society Service Industry Award in late July. The award recognizes those in the food, beverage and hospitality industry who have earned the gratitude and respect of the entire Baton Rouge community through significant and long-lasting contributions to the industry.

Slaughter has been in the restaurant industry for more than 60 years. She has been working in the kitchen at Gino’s since 1966 and helped open the original incarnation of the restaurant. She will attend the ninth annual Grace ‘Mama’ Marino Lifetime Achievement Awards Dinner later this month. There, she will be acknowledged during the awards dinner program.

The awards dinner kicks off the 2015 Fête Rouge celebration at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at L’Auberge Casino & Hotel Baton Rouge. Tickets for the dinner are $200 per person.

Fête Rouge continues 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, with its main Food & Wine Fête at the casino and hotel located at 777 L’Auberge Ave. The event features more than 200 wines from around the globe and local chefs participating in a competition, as well as live entertainment and a silent auction. Tickets are $75.

This year’s event also includes the return of the exclusive Fête du Vin, a VIP area that features more than 50 revered and highly rated wines. Tickets are $200.

Proceeds from Fête Rouge benefit local childhood health and nutrition programs.
