On Trend: A Comfortable Fest

Warning: this isn’t your typical “festival wear” post. Festivals are a wonderful part of Louisiana heritage. They are meant to celebrate music, food and art while enjoying beautiful weather (fingers crossed) with great friends and family. I am not going to tell you to pull out your headband or braid your hair or shop for the most effortless “Bohemian” look you can find.

If this is how you dress on a regular basis, then shine on! But let’s not confuse “festival wear” with looking slouchy and just showing a lot of skin. I believe this is a stigma these days. The thing is, festivals are a judgment-free zone, and this goes both ways. It’s a place for the extreme dressers, the first timers and those in between.

Festivals are also very long days. Outside. So, pull out your walking shoes and comfortable clothing! Let’s talk about some On Trend options (maybe even from your closet!) that will leave you cool, comfy and, yes, even a little Bohemian. These tips are what work for me in our humid weather, while keeping within my personal style, but with a little festival twist.

Walking shoes: Tennis shoes, sandals, rain boots (if it’s raining)—anything that you don’t care about ruining and that will keep your feet happy after a long day. Festivals typically have very dusty or dirty grounds, so leave your nice shoes at home.

Easy and breezy clothes: Go for a simple dress, shorts and a loose top, a crop top and flowy skirt … something that will keep you from sweating all day long. It will either be hot and sunny or cloudy and muggy. Prepare!

Shades: Whether it’s sunglasses or a floppy hat, find something at home that will allow you to watch bands without the sun in your eyes! Not to mention keep you from burning.

Jewelry: This is where I love to branch out. Put on as many bracelets as possible, or string on those layering necklaces! Have nothing to wear? Don’t stress: There will be several jewelry booths to help you stock up, even some with handcrafted pieces!
