Think Twice Style: Well Suited—’Jurassic Park’

Jurassic Park—a ’90s Spielberg classic. Picked apart extensively by one Dawson Leery, it somehow never gets old. The scene when Laura Dern gets elbow deep in dino droppings? Or when we meet Jeff Goldblum’s character, Dr. Ian Malcolm, and we realize that mixing Uncle Jesse’s hair with science is cool. Oh, that’s just me? OK.

Besides learning that I would have had wisdom enough to be in the second car when the T-rex broke free from the electric fence (!!!), I still enjoy the style of the island safari attire. I love, love, love the all-white look of the park’s founder, John Hammond. Anyone know where I can get a mosquito fossilized in amber on a cane? I need that accessory in my life!

IMG_4654When I thrift, I have a knack for finding vintage Banana Republic Safari gear buried deep in the racks. Though this jumpsuit is not Banana Republic Safari, it has the same vibe. I pull it out every once in a while because, let’s be real, jumpsuits and rompers are a pain. They are reserved for short periods of time only. The major redeeming quality of them is that they take no effort to style. No wondering if your blouse looks good with your skirt or pants, etc. It is one piece, which is all the more reason to wear it!

Rifling through my hat box a few weeks ago, I re-found this hat I had forgotten about. The label says, “Indiana Jones, Authentic” with Kent Shilling’s name written in it. Kent, if you are reading this, I have your hat. But you won’t get it back because finder’s keepers, bro. Any safari-goer knows that you need good hiking boots. These slip-ons are more formal than your everyday lace-ups, but work just as well in a pinch … and you wouldn’t want to go on a safari looking a mess.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be searching for those pesky velociraptors.
