Casablanca is one of the greatest films of all time. It’s classic, melodramatic, intriguing and moody. But really, how can you go wrong with Humphrey Bogart as the brooding, droopy-eyed Rick Blaine? You can’t.
The story, set in 1941 Casablanca, follows the reunion of Rick Blaine and his long lost love Isla Lund. Isla is now married to Victor Laszlo, a leader in the Czech resistance. Long story short, Isla and Victor need papers to make their way to the United States to continue their resistance work. Political and personal debacles swing back and forth and are made even more dramatic in black and white … which leads me to the inspiration behind this look.
