Red Stick Sounds

225 magazine, the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and the Baton Rouge Area Convention and Visitors Bureau are proud to announce a brand new compilation of rare and exclusive tracks from your favorite Baton Rouge-inspired artists!

In an effort to raise awareness of Baton Rouge’s rich musical landscape and draw attention to creativity at a time when funding and charitable support of arts organizations are down across the cultural spectrum, Red Stick Sounds rallies more than a dozen musicians and artists with Baton Rouge ties to support our local Arts Council. Each has donated a unique recording to this collection. These are artists helping artists—the way it should be. Red Stick Sounds is made possible by a generous donation from the Convention and Visitors Bureau. All proceeds benefit the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.

Produced by 225 Entertainment Editor Jeff Roedel, executive produced by Arts Council CEO Derek Gordon and 225 Publisher Julio Melara and mastered by PreSonus Audio Vice President Rick Naqvi, Red Stick Sounds features a variety of Baton Rouge’s most dynamic and unique performers representing blues, folk, jazz, pop and rock. These are recordings you will not find anywhere else!

More than pleasing sounds, Red Stick Sounds is a love letter to our city complete with personal stories from the artists themselves. From Henry Gray reminiscing about learning to play his first blues licks to Harlan’s John Norris testifying to the impact of Baton Rouge’s tight-knit artistic community, each artist has written a short essay on Baton Rouge specifically for this collection.

Red Stick Sounds retails for $10 and can be downloaded below as a deluxe bundle (13 songs and 16-page digital booklet with band photos and liner notes). A limited number of physical CDs in full-color digipaks will be available for purchase at Arts Council-sponsored events as well as at the Compact Disc Store on Jefferson Highway and the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts for a limited time.
