For the past few years every time my family passes by the Blue Bayou water park or Dixie Landin’ theme park, the crowd in the back seat goes wild. When can we go? How old do have to be to ride that slide? Can we go at night?? The gang finally had their wish granted this past week as we braved the end-of-summer crowds and brutal summer heat to enjoy one of Baton Rouge’s biggest summer attractions. I have to admit, it was fun!
Although we avoided the weekend crowds by visiting on a Monday, I learned that the beginning of summer is a better time to visit, because in general the crowds are lighter in June. Also, I learned to purchase a summer pass if you plan to visit more than once in a summer because one day passes are expensive. If you are making a one day trip, bring along an empty Coke can for each person and that will save you $5 for each ticket. The park will be open on weekends only for the fall, but if you haven’t been yet make plans to visit.
If you have young children like I do, do not fear – there are plenty of water areas and rides for young children. You can rent a locker to store your valuables so you can enjoy rafting down the lazy river or playing in the wave pool with your family. I was amazed at the number of out of town visitors we met that day, and glad that my family finally had a chance to join in all the bayou fun!
