225 has a wonderful variety of restaurants for supper. Now that Lent is here, there is an increased desire for good seafood. The Bonefish Grill, at 7415 Corporate Blvd. in Towne Centre, is a great addition to the 225 dining choices. Try the Walker Wood Salmon, it’s excellent. It is grilled just right and has a mushroom and spicy, sun dried tomato sauce. Another special of the house is the tuna bacon gorgonzola. Topped with spinach, crispy bacon and creamy gorgonzola sauce, it is a ‘calories well spent’ dish.
Ms. S and I go to Bonefish to enjoy a relaxed and efficiently served meal. We have also had the grouper imperial, which is stuffed with baked shrimp, scallops and crab meat and topped with a lemon caper herb butter sauce. We find the prices in the moderate range and have always received good value for the money. The wine list at the Bonefish is extensive; but the drink specialties are the martinis. Did I mention that it was Lent?
There are twelve different Martinis at the bar. These include the “Icicle Aphrodisiac,” which has vanilla and passion fruit juice, the “Insomniac”, featuring Captain Morgan’s Parrot Bay Mango flavored rum with a burst of Red Bull, and the “Hpnotiq Breeze,” containing a combination of Bacardi Coco, Hpnotiq liqueur and pineapple. I did mention that it was Lent. Oh well, I will keep my promise and bet with Ms. S that I will wait till Lent is over to order one of these wonderful martinis.
One of the best buys in town now is the “two-for-one’ coupons from DaJoNel’s on certain nights. The coupons can be found in the newspaper. This one is right up my “PR’s” frugal ways. DaJoNel’s Restaurant is located at 7327 Jefferson Highway in an old pizza restaurant building. Owner David Yarbro runs a good ship and the food and service are always good. One of the waiters, Lloyd Myers, is a Baton Rouge fixture. He was at Chalet Brandt for many years and knows what he is doing and does it in a very professional manner. In fact, Myers comes from a family that includes the very best food professionals that Baton Rouge has had in the past 50 years. His brother, Andrew, was the senior mixologist at the City Club. Besides a master at mixing drinks, he was the finest friend and listener (and talker) a person could meet.
At DaJoNel's during Lent, you can enjoy crabmeat imperial, oyster Bienville or Rockefeller for an appetizer, and follow up with a main course of the fresh fish of the day prepared in the traditional menuire or amandine style. The fresh fish “Dajonel” is topped with lump crabmeat or crawfish and hollandaise.
So, during Lent, I suggest either of these restaurants for a fine, but liquor-less, meal in 225!

Portobellos has a great eggplant stack on pasta that I really enjoy. Its creamy crawfish sauce qualifies it as a seafood dish. Yum! My husband and I dine at the Portobellos on corner of Jones Creek and George O'Neal more often than I want to admit. The wine list has improved over the past few months and their Cosmopolitan is not to be missed.
