A romantic, dimly lit European bistro atmosphere serving German, Italian, Turkish and Armenian dishes. Pinetta's was founded by the Bubola family, who immigrated from Eastern Europe in the 1950's. It has been a Baton Rouge tradition since 1962. Most of the recipes were derived from generations of the Bubola family in the culinary service in Eastern Europe dating back to the 1800's. Favorite dishes include Marinated Shish Kabob, Wiener Schnitzel, Veal Parmigiana, Chicken Alla Cacciatora, Lasagna, Scaloppine, Shrimp Au Gratin, Shrimp Stuffed with Mushrooms, Hussar Steak, Spaghetti with Meatballs, Sauer Braten & Sauer Kraut, Thuringen Bratwurst and Tuscan Pork Roast.

Can you email me a copy of your menu? My mother is German & I think I'd like to surprise her by bringing her to your restaurant. Thank you! ~Christine Clark~

Let's start with the good and end with the ugly.
First of all, service wasn't bad. We sat ourselves and waited 15 minutes before being seen. Normally, this would be a problem, but our server was very busy, and went above and beyond for us, so he gets a lovely 8.
The vibe... worth going just to have it. The music that plays overhead ranged from ambiant to fun. There were several old, lovely pictures on the walls. Each table had an antique bottle with fake flowers and red checkered tablecloths. It was dimly lit, which some folks might enjoy, but I was indifferent to that aspect. I enjoyed it because although most folks were dressed up, it felt a little homey, and not uncomfortable or stuffy, despite the small size.
The sauerkraut was a bit sweet, but very good. Very authentic!
The food and the value I believe I can roll up into one. I normally live the life of a vegetarian, but for Thanksgiving week decided to indulge in my favorite meat. I ordered the Wiener Shnitzel. For those of you unfamilar, this is basically a lightly breaded pan fried flattened veal patty.
We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes before our entrees came. Again, normally I would have walked, but my brother had previously been and loved it, so we waited to I could try it.
I got unseasoned potatoes that were smashed through a ricer topped with greasy over peppered onions. The "veal" they sent me was nothing more than a chicken fried pork chop. Too much breading and oh yeah... A FREAKING PORK CHOP.
I know as a Chef that sometimes unsavory restaurants replace lean pork with veal, and they very often get away with it. But even for someone who has never had veal, they'd know pork by it's porky taste and texture. This meat shredded like pork and tasted like pork. My brother was so disgusted with his food, he didn't even finish it.
Our bill came out to $40 for 2 "veal turned pork chop" dinners and an inedible eggplant appetizer that I refused to even eat.
To be fair, I did not make a complaint or send my food back. We were tired from a busy day, and very hungry after having had no lunch and then waiting an additional hour for something I could have done better myself in half the time at home. The restaurant is small... too small for it to have been a problem to accommodate and feed the volume of people they had so slowly and carelessly.
I will never return to Pinetta's... but I do encourage everyone to go next door to the charming little bookstore, Cottonwood books.

Let me say first that my waiter was fantastic and while it is not his fault, the wait time for the food was horrendous. He met up with my every demand (and I'm a tough customer!) making sure everything was perfect.
I had waited longer here than I have at Primo's or Chalet Brandt when was still around. The time waiting for the food was horrible and the food itself was underwhelming.
My stuffed eggplant was unpleasant - the "stuffing" was heavily overcooked and the eggplant itself was borderline uncooked and surprisingly tough.
Like one of the previous posters, I, too had a variant of wiener schnitzel. The batter was thick, greasy, and had an awful aftertaste only from old, constantly reused grease.
To put it plainly, there are infinitely better restaurants in Baton Rouge regardless of your culinary preferences be they Italian, German or some other fun and tasty cuisine.
I think I'll eat fast food before going to this place again.

I love Pinetta's - the lasagna, veal scaloppini, and the different parmigiana's are wonderful. When its date night, Pinetta's is one of my top picks. The service is a bit slow; it has always been that way. Pinetta’s is where you go when you aren't in a hurry, you just need to sit back, relax, and enjoy the ambiance and don’t wear your watch and don't forget to try one of their many great wines, oh and the tiramisu - yum

Well, in response to the schnitzel comment... the veal is real. Trust me, I just know. It never was pork, and it never will be pork. I see the cutlets pounded out every day of the week. I eat the schnitzel all the time, and the schnitzel holstein is a beautiful, beautiful dish--anchovy and all.

I know the previous "chef" who is a vegetarian, it's critical to see that they are a vegetarian, didn't like the restaurant, but I truly loved the restaurant. The food in south Louisiana is amazing, but I've found the variety of options is very limited in Baton Rouge, specifically in Italian. Pinetta's offers a nice break from the norm of the area and delivers in quality of its food. The wine might not blow you away, but is satisfactory, and the service is slow, but isn't that the point of going out to eat. I know hear in the south we expect our food in a matter of seconds, but restaurants are for socializing and eating, not grabbing a bite before a tailgate. If you desire that, go to Applebee's. If you need a break from the wonderful local cuisine, please try Pinetta's and make sure to try the lasagna.

How is this restaurant still open? This is probably the worst restaurant in Baton Rouge. The wait staff are rude, incompetent and should not be in the restaurant business. They don't clear your table, don't refill your drinks and don't explain anything about the menu. The food is disgusting - the health department needs to pay them a visit. Visit at your peril.
