LSU System President William Jenkins welcomes author Jed Horne back to the Manship School of Journalism, where Horne talked about his book, Breach of Faith, chosen as this year’s community-wide book of choice for the One Book One Community program.
Horne spoke at the reception in his honor, sharing his own raw, emotional memories of working in the journalism building after the storm. He thanked Baton Rouge for its hospitality, and especially LSU, which, thanks to allowing the Times-Picayune team to operate their makeshift newsroom in the journalism building, shares at least some of the credit for the paper’s Pulitzer Prizes.
Horne called Gov. Kathleen Blanco, who attended the reception, the "politician whose hand has been steadiest on the tiller." He said Katrina’s toll on Blanco’s reputation may have kept her from running for re-election, but the same stigma will affect the next few governors to come as the state government will continue to struggle with the storm’s aftermath for many years to come.
