In 2005, Good Shepherd Baptist Church on Mission Drive hired Britton to run its substance abuse clinic. Britton billed the state Department of Health and Hospitals $200,000 for services. Later, amid suspicions Britton may have been inflating patient counts or over-billing, the church fired Britton after he refused to show them his records, citing patient confidentiality. Britton sued Good Shepherd for breach of contract and defamation.
