A popular Chicago chophouse has opened its doors in Perkins Rowe, its third location in the nation. Grillroom has stayed true to its menu, but added creative South Louisiana flair, thanks to Chef Eugenie Orgeron-Labrecque. After closing her restaurant, Mariner's on the River in Port Vincent, she happened to walk by the Grillroom while under construction last year. "I took a chance and got hired as the chef," Orgeron-Labrecque says. She and general manager Jeffrey Barrios invited people to a private opening Wednesday to sample menu items such as skillet pot pie and to-die-for mac & cheese. A jazz band played from a stage tucked behind the bar, which will be a regular occurrence Wednesdays through Saturdays. Hours are Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Look for drink specials, Sunday brunch and a monthly five-course, wine pairing dinner with an international theme (Tuesday will be focused on food and wine of France, and in August it's Argentina).
