B.R. needs you!

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

If you’ve grown sick of local politics, if you’re tired of back-slapping hucksters and dim-witted fools leading local government, then now’s your chance to make a difference.

Maybe it’s time to stop complaining and do something about your community by getting involved. This is an urgent call for smart, community-minded people: Your city needs you.

As many as nine of 12 seats on the Metro Council with no sitting incumbent this fall could be up for grabs. Some Metro Council members are term-limited, some plan to simply leave office, while others may opt not to run again.

Age isn’t even much of a requirement—our governor, after all, is 36, and was only 32 when he ran in 2003.

Baton Rouge needs new public servants with the energy and resolve to resist forces that hold us back and keep us from improving.

Perhaps 2008 will be the year that changes not only your own life, but Baton Rouge’s as well.
