Next month a new youth baseball league takes the field at Cypress Mounds, the expansive baseball complex off Gardere Lane near Burbank Drive. Helmed by former LSU Tigers Brandon Danos, Blake Gill and Eric Weithorn and a board of owners, Cypress Mounds will offer spring and fall league play for ages 9 to 14, and host weekend tournaments. Cal Ripken’s Ripken Management and Design conceived of the park that features a clubhouse and six fields, plus a diamond reserved for special-needs children. “If I could go back and be 9 again and take this all in, I would,” Weithorn says. “It’s always been a dream to offer kids today a major league experience.” cypressmounds.com
