“I know. Folk singers aren’t supposed to be into Tool. But their newest album, 10,000 Days, is just so darn good, I can’t help myself. For the most part, they leave behind the messy trappings of heavy metal, replacing all of the noise and adolescent rage with delicious melodies and elegant songwriting. That’s not to say that Tool has stopped rocking. Danny Carey’s prodigious drumming still inspires a good deal of head-banging, and I don’t think anyone would tell you they’ve gone soft. But with this most recent work, there is a certain grace and unfettered beauty that is simply overwhelming. I’ve got a brand new Tool T-shirt, and I think I’m going to wear it tomorrow.”
