“Flesh-eating bacteria, cannibals, piranhas and Teddy Roosevelt. These topics didn’t comprise my favorite book themes until I read Candace Millard’s River of Doubt. After a glowing review in the New York Times when named one of its notable books of the year, I purchased River of Doubt for an adventurous friend who would soon proclaim it the best book he’d ever read. I completely concur. This is an astonishing story of Roosevelt’s journey down an unexplored tributary of the Amazon in 1914. As the amazing story unfolded I kept thinking there was simply no way the book could continue to be as riveting, but then another astounding event occurs. It is truly the cat-daddy of page-turners.”
