Filmed on location in Port Allen, the independent sci-fi thriller Lockjaw: The Hunt for the Kulev Serpent could see a DVD release as early as this month, according to local K2 Pictures. Starring rapper DMX (above), the film is peppered with plenty of South Louisiana flare—in other words, Voodoo—as a group of campers are thrown into a certain reptilian predicament.
“I like that [the writers] left some humor in there,” says actress Lauren Fain, an LSU graduate and former Los Angeles casting director. “There’s some goofiness, and that makes the movie more than one note.”
Fain moved back to Baton Rouge the day before shooting began. She believes there is just as much opportunity for her in the film industry here as there was in Hollywood. She loved her scenes with DMX, whose character is a no-nonsense military man who comes to the group’s rescue. After this, her second thriller, she is beginning to really enjoy working in the genre.
“I’m one of only two people that don’t die,” she says with pride.
